Outside my kitchen window a grackle sings.<\/em><\/p>\n

His song is not a pretty one –<\/em>
\nAnd ‘grackle’ an unfortunate name <\/em>
\nfor a love bird.<\/em><\/p>\n

As he sings he grips the barren branch, <\/em>
\nSteadying his earnest song against the wind.<\/em>
\nThe sun transforms his oily feathers<\/em>
\nblack, then midnight blue and black again, <\/em>
\npale yellow eye gleaming.<\/em><\/p>\n

If I hold out my arms, oh Grackle, <\/em>
\nWill you sing to me, fly to me, make me <\/em>
\nyour tree? I will pull you to my breast until<\/em>
\nyour song is done, and kiss your wings<\/em>
\nwith the warmth of the spring.<\/em><\/p>\n

Outside my kitchen window the grackle sings.<\/em>
\nHis song is not a pretty one –<\/em>
