How do you make it through?\u00a0 I think Winston Churchill said it best.\u00a0 You just keep going.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, I received an email from Tushkateer Joanne McC. asking for help.\u00a0 She&#8217;s having a difficult time of it.\u00a0 Read on and feel free to weigh-in.\u00a0\u00a0 And then, Tushkateers, on the lighter side of life, visit:\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maildogmanager.com\/link.html?url=151&amp;client=OurLadyofWeightLoss&amp;campaign=710&amp;email=janicetaylor@me.com\">Our Lady of Weight Loss<\/a><\/strong>, the new and improved website.\u00a0 Be sure to click through all tabs.\u00a0 Lots of fun, wise and utterly useful materials for you to download!<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dear OLofWL ~<\/strong> I am having a rough time of it.\u00a0 The short of it: I sold my house as a \u201cshort sale,\u201d a long and complicated method, albeit a necessity.\u00a0 As I enter month seven, after having been told that the sale was approved and escrow opened, I am now being told that the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> lien holder has not approved the sale.<\/p>\n<p>I am currently staying in a tiny room at my daughter\u2019s house, with my 100+ pound dog.<\/p>\n<p>I have allowed all this to throw me into a depression, and of course, what do I do?\u00a0 I eat, and eat and eat gaining back what I lost plus some.\u00a0 I know that I need to find more adaptive ways to channel my frustration, my anger, my upset, but everything costs money and I can\u2019t spend nor can I charge.<\/p>\n<p>Are you ready for the pi\u00e8ce de r\u00e9sistance?\u00a0 Yesterday, while driving, I got a ticket for talking on my cell phone. LOL!<\/p>\n<p>I think that I am coming close to some sort of breakdown.\u00a0 I cry at the least little thing and that just not like me at all.<\/p>\n<p>What to do? Help! <strong>~ Joanne McC., Sinking Fast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dear Joanne ~<\/strong> I empathize, truly, as I am certain we all do.\u00a0 The ups and downs of life are really something else. Geeze Louise, curve balls coming out of left field.\u00a0 Ouch!\u00a0 And, when that curve ball does come into play, when a difficult period rolls in, our minds (your mind, my mind) tend to run wild, churning up an onslaught of negative and fear-filled thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>We desperately want to and try to create lives that are controllable, definable and predictable.<\/p>\n<p>And, there you are, Joanne, thinking that the sale of your home is finally moving forward.\u00a0 You are imagining that some semblance of order will be restored. But&#8230;another twist n&#8217; turn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to do?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Here follows a mix of what I consider to be spiritual and practical ways for you to &#8220;keep going.&#8221;\u00a0 Some are for your inner state of being, and some geared toward the outer world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Feel.<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a difference between feeling sad and being depressed.\u00a0 Feel sad.\u00a0 Feel angry.\u00a0 Allow yourself to feel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Cry.<\/strong>\u00a0 Crying is an expression of emotion, an outlet for our feelings. Tears put us in touch with our humanness and crying often makes us feel better.\u00a0 Give yourself permission to cry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 Accept.<\/strong> As I mentioned above, a point worth repeating, we desperately want to and try to create lives that are controllable and predictable. Life is neither of those things. The path of resistance creates great suffering. Walk the path of acceptance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0<\/strong> <strong>Think Again.<\/strong> If you hear any \u201cfood\u201d thoughts, remind yourself that overeating, stuffing down your feelings and gaining weight will not help.\u00a0 Redirect your thoughts. Think again!<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0<\/strong> <strong>Breathe.<\/strong>\u00a0 Here is a short breathing exercise that does three miraculous things.\u00a0 It calms, it brings you into your body and away from your mind, and it allows for you to be present.\u00a0 Be Here Now!<\/p>\n<p>Sit in a comfortable position with the spine straight and head inclined slightly forward. Gently close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then let the breath come naturally without trying to influence it. Ideally it will be quiet and slow, but depth and rhythm may vary.<\/p>\n<p>To begin the exercise, count &#8220;one&#8221; to yourself as you exhale.<\/p>\n<p>The next time you exhale, count &#8220;two,&#8221; and so on up to &#8220;five.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then begin a new cycle, counting &#8220;one&#8221; on the next exhalation.<\/p>\n<p>Never count higher than &#8220;five,&#8221; and count only when you exhale.<\/p>\n<p>You will know your attention has wandered when you find yourself up to &#8220;eight,&#8221; &#8220;12,&#8221; even &#8220;19.&#8221;\u00a0 Try to do 5 or 10 minutes of this form of meditation daily.\u00a0 Consistency is always important.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Walk\/Bike.\u00a0 <\/strong>Walking and biking are free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Snap It.\u00a0 <\/strong>If I remember correctly, Joanne, you are a kick tush photographer.\u00a0 Snapping is free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>\u00a0New Friends.\u00a0 <\/strong>Check your local listings for any and all meet ups\/happenings\/group activities that might be of interest to you.\u00a0 You can go and explore, try \u2018em on for size. Get out and make some new friends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Volunteer.\u00a0 <\/strong>A sure way to get out of a funk is to give, give, give.\u00a0 It\u2019ll lift your spirits, give purpose and provide a wider view of life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10.\u00a0\u00a0 Ingest Quotes.<\/strong>\u00a0 This week&#8217;s quotes were hand-picked specifically for you.\u00a0 Ingest the words of wisdom.\u00a0 They&#8217;re calorie free!<\/p>\n<p>Joanne, I hope that helps.\u00a0 I never tell people, &#8220;Don&#8217;t worry.
