It is a natural and necessary part of life.\u00a0 However, persistent stress that is not resolved is deemed \u2018distress,\u2019 and it can lead to anxiety, depression, diminished health and for us emotional eaters, extreme stress and distress can lead to weight gain.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid this, we need to collect as many useful stress reduction tools as possible, and put them to use.<\/p>\n<p>Here follow four tips that range from \u2018extreme\u2019 to \u2018serene.\u2019 <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0 Ice it out.<\/strong>\u00a0 Wrap a few pieces of ice in a napkin, or two.\u00a0 Hold this ice pack on your hand.\u00a0 Focus on the intense sensation of the icy cold on your hand.\u00a0 This may seem extreme, but it works!\u00a0 Try it and report in!<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Escape Into the Pages.<\/strong>\u00a0 Grab a stack of magazines and either find a good article to get lost in, or focus on the photos.\u00a0 Which delight your soul?\u00a0 Calm you?\u00a0 Rip \u2018em out and start a \u2018distress file.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 Don&#8217;t think, just rip!<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 Deep Breathing.<\/strong>\u00a0 Inhale slowly to the count of 5, feeling your belly expand.\u00a0 Pause.\u00a0 Exhale slowly, counting to 5, feeling your belly deflate.\u00a0 Do this five times and then, five times again. <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0 Tap It Out.\u00a0<\/strong> Rapidly tap your fingers on your neck and shoulders.
