{"id":3019,"date":"2011-11-25T08:06:46","date_gmt":"2011-11-25T13:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/ourladyofweightloss\/?p=3019"},"modified":"2011-11-25T08:09:49","modified_gmt":"2011-11-25T13:09:49","slug":"gorilla-dieting-4-turkey-leftover-recipes-and-1-kick-tush-diet-tip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/ourladyofweightloss\/2011\/11\/gorilla-dieting-4-turkey-leftover-recipes-and-1-kick-tush-diet-tip.html","title":{"rendered":"Gorilla Dieting:  4 Turkey Leftover Recipes and 1 Kick-Tush Diet Tip"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3020\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3020\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/ourladyofweightloss\/files\/2011\/11\/AD-fat-is-folly1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3020\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/100\/2011\/11\/AD-fat-is-folly1-300x285.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3020\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Obesity Soap might not do the trick, but Our Lady of Weight Loss shares some kick-tush tips!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourladyofweightloss.com\">Our Lady of Weight Loss<\/a> and I are heading to the Bronx Zoo this morning, with my husband and the &#8216;kids.&#8217; \u00a0 <em>(The kids are adults now and as it turns out, we&#8217;re all pretty much the same age.\u00a0\u00a0 But that&#8217;s another blog post, I suspect &#8211; on how I got to be only 7 years older than my children.\u00a0 If you want to know the secret to how I managed this feat and how to find the fountain that I&#8217;m drinking from, just let me know!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Anyway, back to the point &#8211; we&#8217;re heading to the Bronx Zoo and &#8211; because there are so many leftovers <em>(geeze Louise, and I was worried that there wouldn&#8217;t be enough food)<\/em>, my brilliant and beautiful and loving daughter-in-law <em>(true, I am blessed to have the best DIL ever)<\/em> said, &#8220;Let&#8217;s pack lunch!&#8221;\u00a0 And so we are making sandwiches.\u00a0 <em>(Well, they are busy making the sandwiches, as I am busy writing you!\u00a0 I can hear the clink and clank of kitchen utensils from my desk!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We have rolls that are 90 calories per roll &#8211; a great deal &#8211; for us calorie counters, by the way.\u00a0 And with 3 ounces of turkey (150 calories) and with a bit of lettuce, tomato and mustard, I am approximating that each sandwich is 275 calories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KICK-TUSH DIET TIP:<\/strong>\u00a0 When I&#8217;m not exactly sure what something is, I rounded it up.\u00a0 I call it &#8220;DIET INSURANCE.&#8221;\u00a0 You don&#8217;t even have to be good at math to round the number up.\u00a0 True? and Brilliant, Yes? <em> (I&#8217;d like to take full credit for this, but it&#8217;s really <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourladyofweightloss.com\">Our Lady of Weight Loss<\/a> who taps me on the shoulder and whispers in my ear!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The kids have finished making sandwiches now and they&#8217;re asking me what else do we want to pack?\u00a0 And I&#8217;m yelling back, bottles of water and sliced up apples!\u00a0 So there you have it.\u00a0 Sandwiches, apples, water and we&#8217;re ready to layer up (a tad chilly this morning) and head out to hang tight with the Gorillas!<\/p>\n<p>One more thing, before I share the recipes, remember this.\u00a0 If you did fall off the wagon yesterday and are having trouble getting back on, remember Our Lady&#8217;s mantra:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/014200524X\/beliefnet\">ALL IS FORGIVEN, MOVE ON<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">***<\/p>\n<p><strong>FOUR TURKEY LEFTOVER RECIPES!<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>TURKEY BACON CLUB.<\/strong> NO joke! Use fat-free mayo and turkey bacon with your leftover turkey and serve up a Turkey Bacon Club sandwich.<br \/>\n<strong>OPEN HAM SANDWICH<\/strong>. Thinly sliced ham followed by a nice dollop of Dijon mustard, topped with a thin slice of reduced-fat cheese on a fat slice of whole-wheat toast. Pop it in the toaster-oven. Watch cheese melt. Eat. Enjoy!<br \/>\n<strong>WHITE EGGS AND HAM (or TURKEY) OMELETTE<\/strong>. Use egg whites as your base for a ham or turkey omelet. Be sure to toss in a bunch of crunchy, colorful veggies! Want to add some of that low-fat cheese? Go for it! And now place it on a thin slice of your favorite bread.<br \/>\n<strong>TURKEY (or HAM) PIZZA<\/strong>. Get yourself a thin-crust pizza (Boboli makes a good one), sprinkle on bits of turkey and\/or ham, a little of that cheese. Some of those crunchy veggies.
