{"id":2465,"date":"2011-06-06T12:41:52","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T16:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/ourladyofweightloss\/?p=2465"},"modified":"2011-06-06T12:41:52","modified_gmt":"2011-06-06T16:41:52","slug":"7-steps-to-mindful-eating-saliva-involved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/ourladyofweightloss\/2011\/06\/7-steps-to-mindful-eating-saliva-involved.html","title":{"rendered":"7 Steps to Mindful Eating: Saliva Involved!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that saliva and its resident enzymes are serving both to liquefy and break down the food in your mouth, those morsels that you\u2019ve been chewing on?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true and it\u2019s a good thing.\u00a0 Because the longer you keep the food in your mouth, the longer you put off scoffing down, the more the saliva keeps flowing and flowing, and the mushier, squishier and squashier the food in \u2018there\u2019 gets.\u00a0 It not only aids digestion, but it also helps your <em>mindful eating<\/em> attempts, as well.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an amazingly powerful and en\u2019lite\u2019ening Mindful Eating exercise that increases flow of saliva and mindfulness, at the same time!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step One: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CHEW.<\/strong> Seriously.\u00a0 Resist all mindless impulses to chew fast and gulp down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Two:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STOP CHEWING.<\/strong> Seriously.\u00a0 Chew and then STOP!\u00a0 Allow the food to rest on your tongue.\u00a0 Simply rest and allow the saliva to flow forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Three:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PRESS IT.<\/strong> Press the food that is resting on your tongue (you didn\u2019t eat it yet, did you?) up onto your palate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Four:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>HOLD IT.<\/strong> Hold the food to your palate for at least 10 seconds.\u00a0 Whew &#8230; long time???<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Five:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SHIFT IT.<\/strong> Move the food from tongue to palate and back again. Slowly please.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Six:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EXPERIENCE IT.<\/strong> Seriously.\u00a0 Did you know that your palate tasted, too?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Seven:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SWALLOW IT.<\/strong> Okay.
