{"id":2342,"date":"2011-05-02T13:15:07","date_gmt":"2011-05-02T17:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/ourladyofweightloss\/?p=2342"},"modified":"2011-05-02T13:15:07","modified_gmt":"2011-05-02T17:15:07","slug":"motivational-monday-are-you-a-food-victim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/ourladyofweightloss\/2011\/05\/motivational-monday-are-you-a-food-victim.html","title":{"rendered":"Motivational Monday &#8211; Are YOU a Food Victim?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>Definition of a victim:\u00a0 a person to whom life happens.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ~ Peter McWilliams<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Are You a Food Victim???<\/strong> I hesitate to use the word \u201cVICTIM,\u201d because it is such a strong word.\u00a0 But I\u2019ve just got to ask \u2026 are you?\u00a0 a food victim?\u00a0 no?\u00a0 are you sure???<\/p>\n<p>If you think that something or someone other than yourself is controlling your food choices and\/or controlling your eating \u2026<em><br \/>\n\u2026 Then, <strong>you are a food victim!<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you believe that certain foods are simply  irresistible, as in impossible to resist, no way, can\u2019t say \u2018no\u2019 to that  or that or even that, or that the Universe is conspiring against you,  sabotaging your healthy living attempts at every turn on the road to  Sveltesville, and that external circumstances hold power over you \u2026<br \/>\n<em>\u2026 Then, <strong>you are a food victim!<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In order for your permanent weight removal  attempts to be fully, entirely and wholly (or holy) successful, then you  must step away from and move out of <strong><em>\u2018food victim mode.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may not realize that you have stepped into the victim role and have embraced it as fully as you have, but if you are <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> taking full responsibility, if you are <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> exercising your ability to create a healthy lifestyle; if you allowing  life to lead you down the path to donuts and other \u2018deadly delights,\u2019  then <em><strong>you have taken on this ineffectual and hopeless identity.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nAsk yourself \u2026 <strong><em>\u201cJust how much of a \u2018food victim\u2019 am I?\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>&#8220;<\/em><em>We focus on the negatives, losing ourselves in the problem.<\/em><em> <\/em><em>We  point to our unhappy circumstances to rationalize our negative  feelings. This is the easy way out. It takes, after all, very little  effort to feel victimized.&#8221;<br \/>\n~ Elizabeth Kubler-Ross<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No doubt fully embracing a healthy lifestyle  takes time and effort.
