It is an initiative that aims to reduce the use of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/environment\/2009\/05\/left-holding-plastic-bag\">plastic bags<\/a> in NYC through sustained and mindful political action that comes from a place of compassion and an understanding of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prat%C4%ABtyasamutp%C4%81da\">interdependence<\/a>. Our current efforts include both awareness raising on this critical issue through arts as well as legislative advocacy to promote and pass laws that will reduce plastic bag consumption. <\/p>\n<p>Now in its fourth year, the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/greenermedia\" target=\"_blank\">Green Apple Festival<\/a>&nbsp;(GAF)&nbsp;beganin New York City as an environmental and music event. &nbsp;The celebrationencourages&nbsp;individuals, families and civic leaders to make&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/sustainability.publicradio.org\/consumerconsequences\/\" target=\"_blank\">greener life choices<\/a>&nbsp;and stem the tide of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dbcca.com\/dbcca\/EN\/;jsessionid=2FF5BDCF405D68C0C66AFEC8AF6B8472.internet3dr\" target=\"_blank\">climate change<\/a>. Since&nbsp;2006,&nbsp;GAF&nbsp;has grown to become the country&#8217;s largest coordinatedand interactive festival dedicated to Earth Day.
