I came across this today<\/strong><\/a>. It’s a very well researched essay, available for free, about the evolution of different sects and ordination lineages in early Buddhism. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it had some interesting tidbits. For one, there are three extant ordination lineages in the world\u2014the Mulasarvastivada (Tibetans), Dharmaguptaka (East Asians) and the Theravada (Sri Lanka & Southeast Asia)\u2014and apparently the Dharmaguptaka were founded by a Greek. So the ordination lineage to which tens of thousands of Chinese men and women have belonged over the centuries was founded by a Greek in India–what a multicultural religion Buddhism has always been.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
