In a stunt designed to infuriate Christians, a student atheist group at the University of Texas at San Antionio is offering to give free pornography to any student who wants to turn in their Bible.<\/p>\n

The organization, called the \u201cAtheist Agenda,\u201d calls its campaign \u201cSmut for Smut,\u201d according to reporter Marcia Segelstein.<\/p>\n

Members sit at a table in the lobby of the school\u2019s humanities building with a sign that reads, \u201cTrade in Holy Texts 4 Porn,\u201d ready to hand over a pornographic magazine in return for a Bible.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time they\u2019ve done this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey first did this back in December 2005,\u201d reports Segelstein. \u201cAt that time, a group member explained to the school newspaper, the Independent,<\/em> the reasons behind the controversial, in-your-face initiative:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea is that religious texts are so appalling. They are so full of genocide, misogyny and ludicrous ideas that far overshadow any banal common-sense platitudes like loving thy neighbor, that you are better off having porn, which isn\u2019t nearly as smutty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kevin Prather is the Baptist Student Ministry Director at the university.<\/p>\n

He shares why he thinks this is happening:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a snapshot of the \u2018New Atheism\u2019 that is springing up in America \u2013 aggressive and confrontational.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt outrages the sense of Christians.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Atheist Agenda does this solely for this purpose: To get under the skin of Christians and to provoke an angry response so they can point at screaming Christians and say to their peers: \u2018See they are angry, self-righteous, judgmental people.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While emotions are said to be running high, the only reported response, according to San Antonio television station KENS-TV, is that \u201csome students gathered in protest by reading their Bibles and praying.\u201d<\/p>\n

University officials said the campaign falls under the category of protected free speech.<\/p>\n
