In documents filed with the immigration board, he described a phone call from his wife in China,\u00a0 &#8220;who told him that officials from China&#8217;s Public Security Bureau had visited their home and were investigating illegal church activities,&#8221; reports Quan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/on_the_front_lines_of_the_culture_wars\/2011\/04\/why-is-china-persecuting-the-church.html\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">To see a video smuggled out of China about the underground church, <\/span>CLICK HERE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wang had been a member of an underground Christian church and described how he sometimes acts as a lookout during church services.<\/p>\n<p>In assessing Wang&#8217;s refugee claim, immigration bureaucrat Daniel Mc-Sweeney asked Wang: &#8220;So tell me about Jesus as a person. What was he like?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jesus is son of God,&#8221; Wang said, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am not asking who he was or what he did. I am asking what is he like as a person,&#8221; McSweeney said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jesus was conceived through the Holy Ghost and was born in this world,&#8221; Wang replied.<\/p>\n<p>The answer did not satisfy McSweeney. &#8220;Anybody could memorize a creed and recite the creed. I want to know what you believe and what you know of Jesus as a person.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In my heart He is my Savior,&#8221; Wang answered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Again,&#8221; persisted McSweeney,\u00a0&#8220;tell me what Jesus is as a person and this is the last time I am going to ask you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am sorry, I really do not know how to answer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the immigration\u00a0board denied Wang&#8217;s refugee claim, saying he was not credible &#8212; and that his professed religious beliefs and practices &#8220;were merely an attempt to bolster his refugee claim,&#8221;\u00a0writes\u00a0\u00a0Quan. &#8220;The board said it came to that conclusion in part of because of Wang&#8217;s inability to answer the question about Jesus or to describe certain core beliefs of the Pentecostal Church.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/pray_for_the_persecuted_church\/?p=591\">CLICK HERE <span style=\"color: #888888;\">to read\u00a0a\u00a0smuggled-out account of\u00a0one woman&#8217;s\u00a048 hours in police custody<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Wang applied to\u00a0Canada&#8217;s Federal Court.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Court Judge David G. Near says he sees no reason to overturn the decision. What happens there?
