Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic\"><\/span> [from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Where-Do-We-Here-Community\/dp\/0807005711\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1200979883&amp;sr=1-1\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?<\/span> <\/a>(Beacon Press, 1968), p. 62.]<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s funny about the above quote is that, when I first heard it, I didn&#8217;t know it was from MLK.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.braddigan.com\/\"> Brad Corrigan<\/a> threw that phrase into an interview we did sitting together on the floor of a tiny hotel room in Managua, Nicaragua, the day before the first <a href=\"http:\/\/braddigan.com\/llm\/diadeluz\/index.php\">Dia De Luz<\/a> in March 2007. <span style=\"font-style: italic\">What a beautiful thing to say, <\/span>I thought. <span style=\"font-style: italic\">That Braddigan sure can turn a phrase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m such a dork. Such an uneducated, ignorant, socially unaware dork.<\/p>\n<p>I got home later and was writing up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/action\/article\/4363\/dispatch\">some articles<\/a> about Dia De Luz &#8212; which was a profound thing to have experienced, and if you don&#8217;t know anything about it you should at least <a href=\"http:\/\/relevantmagazine.com\/god_article.php?id=7313\">read this recap<\/a> of it and <a href=\"http:\/\/braddigan.com\/llm\/diadeluz\/index.php\">watch this video<\/a> and, if you&#8217;re really interested, <a href=\"http:\/\/paramount.podhoster.com\/download\/591\/2247\/exp040707_easter.mp3\">listen to this short sermon<\/a> I gave about it at Easter &#8212; and I realized that Dr. King had first written those words. He repeated them, with a slight revision, in his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiana.edu\/%7Eivieweb\/mlkwhere.html\">address to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference<\/a> in 1967.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway. Thank you, Dr. King, for shining light in the darkness and injecting love into the hate. We could all use less darkness and hate.
