So far in my writing career, I\u2019ve had the luxury of being able to mostly have my way when it comes to book titles, and that\u2019s resulted in books like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Guys-Guide-Life-Become-Pages\/dp\/B000F6Z8NI\/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1198206610&amp;sr=1-3\">A Guy\u2019s Guide to Life: How to Become a Man in 208 Pages<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Guys-Guide-Life-Become-Pages\/dp\/B000F6Z8NI\/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1198206610&amp;sr=1-3\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\"> or Less<\/span><\/a> (my favorite title so far.)<\/p>\n<p>So, naturally, I\u2019m a big supporter of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebookseller.com\">The Bookseller Magazine<\/a>\u2019s annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebookseller.com\/news\/53656-oddest-book-titles-prize-shortlist-announced.html\">Diagram Prize for the Oddest Book Title of the Year<\/a> (The Bookseller is the UK\u2019s industry mag). Nominations are in and the list has been narrowed to six finalists \u2013 and the public <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebookseller.com\/\">gets to vote<\/a> on the winner.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the shortlist of nominated titles:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">I Was Tortured by the Pygmy Love Queen<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">,<\/span> by Jasper McCutcheon<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">How to Write a How to Write Book,<\/span> by Brian Paddock<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">Are Women Human? McSweeney<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs,<\/span> by Big Boom<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">People who Mattered in <\/span><span style=\"cursor: pointer;font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\"><span class=\"yshortcuts\">Southend<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\"> and Beyond: From <\/span><span style=\"cursor: pointer;font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\"><span class=\"yshortcuts\">King Canute<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\"> to Doctor Feelgood,<\/span> by Dee Gordon<\/p>\n<p>While there\u2019s perhaps no more evocative phrase than \u201cpygmy love queen\u201d \u2013 and Jasper McCutcheon is pretty much the coolest name ever &#8212; my vote is for C<span style=\"font-style: italic\">heese Problems Solved<\/span>. Because, first of all, I have never ever considered the existence of \u201ccheese problems\u201d of any sort, much less thought that an entire book was necessary to solve these problems. Also, when removed from the context of mealtime or photography, <span style=\"font-style: italic\">cheese <\/span>is almost always a funny word. Good luck, P.L.H.
