I’ll drink to THAT!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There is a natural tendency for us to forget that history in general, and our lives in particular, are really more of a continuum than a series of connected dots.<\/strong> When a person looks back on (for example) their romantic past, there is a tendency to think of it as “you were single, then BAM!<\/em>\u00a0you met someone then POW!<\/em> You were in love, and then ZAP!<\/em> you were married and then KABOOM!<\/em>\u00a0that weasel cheated you on you, and then WHAM!<\/em> you were divorced.” The truth is that although any one of those points in the relationship may have a specific focus in time and space, there were many things that led up to any one of them, and many things that followed on.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Cardinal Grand Cross that is approaching<\/a> has a lot of people worried, and I admit that I have spent a fair portion of my readings of late talking people down off a ledge one way or another. Things have been tense for a while, but there may not necessarily be a reason to assume that this<\/em> is the month the other shoe drops for many of you. Certainly though… tides are turning all over the place.<\/p>\n

The last time there was a Grand Cross in the Cardinal Signs (and also involving Jupiter, Mars, Uranus and Pluto) was December 18th, 1933.<\/strong> If you were a person living at that time and looking at the state of the world that month, you wouldn’t necessarily have seen a whole lot of big disasters things happening.<\/strong> There were the usual events in sports and politics. Bolivia and Paraguay were at war. The 13th Dalai Lama died. Overall, probably the single biggest news story was the repeal of Prohibition. But as far as big disasters overall? It was a fairly quiet month in human history.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the upside, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers made their first film together. And if you had been around the time, you would’ve had no way of knowing that Tim Conway or Cicely Tyson or Henrik Gorecki were being born, or what their contributions to world culture would be.<\/p>\n

Let’s not be too concerned that December 1933 was also the month the Germany’s defense ministry announced a program to increase the size of their army to a goal of 1.2 million soldiers by 1936, Ernst R\u00f6hm and Rudolf Hess joined the Cabinet,\u00a0or that this was the month that all German press services came under the direct supervision of the Propaganda Ministry, shall we?<\/strong><\/p>\n

So you see: no matter what you’re going through, there’s no need to panic. You are in the middle of a continuum, and not necessarily about to be hit by a 2 x 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having said THAT, though… yeah, pretty tense these days, isn’t it…?<\/p>\n
