The following is a devotion from my message series\u00a010 Steps to Freedom<\/a>. I hope these devotionals help you experience lasting freedom in Jesus!<\/em><\/p>\n

STEP NINE: day 2<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fail forward<\/strong>\u00a0and keep pressing on<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of Jesus\u2019 life, Peter had failed miserably. In Jesus\u2019 moment of need, after Peter publicly declared that he would never abandon him (John 13:37-38), Peter did exactly that, denying Jesus three times (John 18:15-27). \u00a0 <\/span>Peter, like many of us when we fail, knew immediately the depths to which he had failed and was filled with regret (Matthew 26:75). Peter failed, like all of us fail. But that\u2019s not the end of his story. After Jesus\u2019 resurrection, he makes it a point to reinstate Peter.<\/span><\/p>\n

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter,\u00a0\u201cSimon son of John, do you love me more than these?\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, Lord,\u201d he said, \u201cyou know that I love you.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cFeed my lambs.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Again Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cSimon son of John, do you love me?\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

He answered, \u201cYes, Lord, you know that I love you.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cTake care of my sheep.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

The third time he said to him,\u00a0\u201cSimon son of John, do you love me?\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time,\u00a0\u201cDo you love me?\u201d\u00a0He said, \u201cLord, you know all things;\u00a0you know that I love you.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cFeed my sheep.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>John 21:15-17<\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus wasn\u2019t finished with Peter even though he blew it in a big way, and Jesus isn\u2019t finished with you yet either, even though you stumble on the road to freedom. Hold onto that hope as you learn to fail forward into freedom!<\/span><\/p>\n

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Have you ever had an experience where someone forgave you after you failed? How did their forgiveness affect you and empower you?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Who has failed you in your life? Have you forgiven them (step five) the way you\u2019ve been forgiven?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
