3\u00a0<\/span>His divine power\u00a0has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him\u00a0who called us\u00a0by his own glory and goodness.<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>4\u00a0<\/span>Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,\u00a0so that through them you may participate in the divine nature,\u00a0having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.<\/em> 2 Peter 1:3-4<\/span><\/p>\n

These verses have captivated me for a few years now. First there’s the incredible statement that everything we need for a godly life is already within us. This will be a surprise to the millions of Christians who still feel under resourced and unable to live up to their own expectations in the faith they love so much.<\/p>\n

And then there’s the statement about the promises (which Peter never elaborates on). That through the promises we may participate in the divine nature, which is a lofty promise in and of itself. Although this is still a work in progress, let me share with you ten promises that Scripture gives us that will allow us to participate with the divine nature as we practice them. (WARNING: I apologize in advance that my Baptist-ness will come through as all ten of these promises start with the same letter).<\/em><\/p>\n

  1. Purpose<\/strong>. You were created on purpose for a purpose (Jeremiah 29:11).<\/li>\n
  2. Pardon<\/strong>. You’ve been forgiven. You’ve been given a second chance (1 John 1:8).<\/li>\n
  3. Permanence<\/strong>. Your eternal destiny is secure (John 10:27-29).<\/li>\n
  4. Presence<\/strong>. God is with you (Hebrews 13:5).<\/li>\n
  5. Peace<\/strong>. God’s peace will surround you (Philippians 4:6-9).<\/li>\n
  6. Provision<\/strong>. God will provide for all of your needs (Philippians 4:13).<\/li>\n
  7. Power<\/strong>. God’s power dwells in you (Acts 1:8).<\/li>\n
  8. Participation<\/strong>. You can participate in the divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).<\/li>\n
  9. Persecution<\/strong>. Those who want to live a godly life will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12)<\/li>\n
  10. Paradise<\/strong>. Heaven awaits us (John 14:1-6).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
