Yes, says baffled deputy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A duck hunter in Utah reported to a hospital emergency room and told\u00a0medical workers that his dog shot him.<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0derriere. \u00a0The <em>glutteus maximus.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10008\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10008\" style=\"width: 389px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2011\/12\/dog.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10008 \" title=\"dog\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2011\/12\/dog.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"216\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The shotgunning dog walks with a friend of the victim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Emergency room workers say the hunter won&#8217;t be sitting comfortably for a few days, but is expected to recover fully.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dogs are man&#8217;s best friend,&#8221; reported Salt Lake City&#8217;s\u00a0KSL. &#8220;Except, you know, when they&#8217;re shooting a gun at you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.blogs.cnn.com\/2011\/12\/01\/man-shot-after-dog-causes-gun-to-go-off\/\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A Utah hunter was on the mend after surviving a gunshot wound from man\u2019s best friend &#8212; yes, a dog.<\/p>\n<p>While authorities don&#8217;t know all the particulars, this much is certain, hospital crews had to extract 27 pellets of birdshot from the man, according to news reports.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>KSL reported that the Brigham City\u00a0man in question &#8212; a 46-year-old hunting enthusiast whose name has not been released at his request &#8212; got a buttocks full of birdshot courtesy of his enthusiastic bird dog when\u00a0the two were out duck hunting over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly, they and another man were paddling a canoe through a shallow marsh when the\u00a0dog&#8217;s owner\u00a0stepped out of the boat to set up decoys. He had\u00a0left his 12-gauge shotgun resting across the bow of the boat, according to Box Elder County Sheriff&#8217;s Deputy Kevin Potter.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when the dog &#8220;did something to make the gun discharge,&#8221; Potter\u00a0told KSL.\u00a0&#8220;I don&#8217;t know if the safety device was on. It&#8217;s not impossible the dog could have taken it off safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Apparently excited at the prospect\u00a0of getting the hunting trip underway, the\u00a0canine jumped up on the boat&#8217;s bow and stepped on the gun, firing a load of birdshot into the man, who was about 10 feet away.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0second hunter\u00a0called 911 and transported his companion to the hospital, where he\u00a0is recovering.
