Another referred to scenes as &#8220;trashy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9638\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9638\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2011\/11\/golgota.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9638\" title=\"golgota\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2011\/11\/golgota.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9638\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A scene in the play<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A senior Catholic cleric, Bishop Dominique Rey of Frejus-Toulon,\u00a0denounced playwright Rodrigo Garcia&#8217;s depiction of Christ as &#8220;madman, dog, pyromaniac, messiah of Aids, devil-whore, no better than a terrorist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The play, which features full nudity,\u00a0is scheduled to debut in Toulouse\u00a0where Archbishop Monsignor Robert Le Gall\u00a0told\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-15752989\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> that \u00a0Garcia &#8220;wants to denounce forcefully all forms of fundamentalism and rebel against an all-powerful God.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Le Gall said the play &#8220;fouled the faith of many believers&#8221; and does not depict the &#8220;God Christians proclaim.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Delighted with the publicity, the play&#8217;s Argentine-born author said he found it &#8220;healthy&#8221; when people took a stand. The\u00a0 manager of the the Garonne Theatre where the play will be performed, Jacky Ohayon, insisted the play was not blasphemous and said it had run for six months in Madrid &#8220;with no trouble.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It received lukewarm reviews in Madrid. Antonio Castro in the daily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madridiario.es\/2011\/Enero\/madrid\/madcultura\/197078\/golgota-picnic-teatro-maria-guerrero-critica-rodrigo-garcia-centro-dramatico-nacional-.html\" target=\"_blank\">Madridiario.com <\/a>said the play attempts to &#8220;surprise, shock\u00a0and revolutionize educate the public,&#8221; but becomes tedious.
