They arrived at a local hospital so badly hurt that officials saw hey could not recover, according to ABC news.<\/p>\n<iframe title=\"Couple Married 72 Years Dies Holding Hands\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iKntqynkoFI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>They were placed together in a bed, where they lay holding hands.\u00a0Even then, says their son, Dennis Yeager, the couple\u2019s concern was only for each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was saying her chest hurt and what\u2019s wrong with Dad? Even laying there like that, she was worried about Dad,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd his back was hurting and he was asking about Mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gordon died at 3:38. But people in the room at the time say they were confused when Gordon stopped breathing, but his heart monitor continued to pick up a heartbeat. That was when they realized that the monitor was detecting Norma\u2019s heartbeat, through their clasped hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we thought, \u2018Oh my gosh, Mom\u2019s heart is beating through him,\u2019\u201d Dennis Yeager said.<\/p>\n<p>Norma died an hour later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad used to say that a woman is always worth waiting for,\u201d Dennis Yeager said. \u201cDad waited an hour for her and held the door for her.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Without the other, neither wanted to live, according the children of an elderly couple that died last week.
