“In case you missed the debate in Iowa last night, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) was asked if she would be submissive to her husband,” observes Sarah Pulliam Bailey on the website GetReligion.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>“The question wasn\u2019t completely out of left field,” commented Bailey,\u00a0“since Bachmann mentioned it at a gathering in 2006 when she said she initially hated her husband\u2019s idea of studying a degree in tax law.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the Lord said, be submissive. Wives, you are to be submissive to your husband,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Washington Examiner<\/em>\u2019s Byron York asked a question about wifely submission that was quickly booed by the audience.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s amusing,” writes Bailey,\u00a0“that the egalitarian\/complimentarian debates (whether husband and wife more equal in their roles or whether men play a larger role in leadership) are coming up in the presidential election; maybe tomorrow we\u2019ll be asking them about their views on eschatology.<\/p>\n

Although I didn\u2019t see the question as sexist or completely irrelevant since she did mention it in the past, I hope that her response (\u201cwhat submission means to us, if that\u2019s what your question is, is respect\u201d) settles it and we can move on from these kinds of questions to other issues.<\/p>\n

The media sexism question came up earlier this week when we saw the Newsweek<\/em> cover \u201cThe Queen of Rage.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
