“So let me see if I understand this:” writes a U.S. Army colonel serving in Afghanistan.\u00a0“The Defense Department is proposing to let people who choose to live a homosexual lifestyle serve ‘openly’ in the armed forces, but won\u2019t allow Christians such as myself the freedom to ‘openly’ share the good news of Christ with our co-workers \u2014 as the faith we\u2019ve chosen requires?”<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Stacy L. Maxey’s comments appear in Stars and Stripes<\/em> newspaper’s Letters to the Editor. He writes:<\/p>\n DOD officials plan to tell servicemembers who have a problem with those living a homosexual lifestyle to \u201clearn to deal with it,\u201d but they are prepared to counsel and\/or slap Christians with paperwork if someone feels \u201coffended\u201d by our witness? Wearing sexual lifestyle choices on your sleeve is OK, but not your faith?<\/p>\n Military chaplains who teach that homosexuality is antithetical to and incompatible with Christianity (which it is) can either muzzle their objections or \u201cleave,\u201d but gays will be permitted to parade their lifestyle choices in front of all?<\/p>\n Bottom line: So I\u2019m free to express myself if I\u2019m a homosexual, but not if I\u2019m a Christian? What disgraceful hypocrisy.<\/p>\n
