A report released on Tuesday said that Israel\u2019s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to President Barack Obama’s formula for peace with Palestine based on the pre-1967 lines with land swaps if Palestine drops its\u00a0bid for statehood in September.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s expected that it would be considered the starting point of the peace talks if Netanyahu did indeed accept the deal.<\/p>\n

There are conditions, however. Palestine would need to withdrawal its bid for statehood next month\u00a0and would have to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish State.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has said publicly he would not recognize Israel as a Jewish State.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Abbas has been campaigning vehemently for enough votes before the 192-member UN General Assembly meets on whether to recognize Palestine as a state.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu has been steadfast on his position regarding the pre-1967 borders, stating that it would put Israel at great risk as the pre-1967 line would be indefensible.<\/p>\n

Beliefnet contacted the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C.\u00a0and was told by a spokesperson\u00a0that they heard of the reports circulating in the media, but there was no official statement released by the Prime Minister and his office\u00a0at this time.<\/p>\n
