One third of the Netherlands’ doctors have refused to carry out a euthanasia request over the past five years, according to a survey of 800 family doctors for the\u00a0Dutch\u00a0television program “E\u00e9nVandaag.”<\/p>\n

The English-language website DutchNews reports that around half of\u00a0Dutch general practitioners\u00a0who were questioned said they had felt pressured by patients or their relatives to help them to die.<\/p>\n

Almost 75 percent\u00a0said they were unwilling to carry out euthanasia on someone who is worried about unbearable suffering in the future. Only 20 percent\u00a0are willing to help a patient who is tired of life.<\/p>\n

Euthanasia is legal in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
