{"id":4889,"date":"2011-07-29T10:45:14","date_gmt":"2011-07-29T14:45:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/news\/?p=4889"},"modified":"2011-07-28T21:41:20","modified_gmt":"2011-07-29T01:41:20","slug":"southern-illinois-agency-seeks-to-join-lawsuit-over-homosexual-adoption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/news\/2011\/07\/southern-illinois-agency-seeks-to-join-lawsuit-over-homosexual-adoption","title":{"rendered":"Southern Illinois agency seeks to join lawsuit over homosexual adoption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The charitable agency Catholic Social Services of Southern Illinois\u00a0in Belleville has petitioned to join a lawsuit filed by the Catholic Charities agency\u00a0in Springfield, Peoria and Joliet, Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>The suit seeks relief against efforts by the Illinois attorney general\u2019s office and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to halt the Roman Catholic agencies from any further participation in state\u2019s programs for foster care and adoption,\u00a0according to\u00a0a legal legal representative from the Thomas More Society.<\/p>\n<p>The state has until Friday to object to the Southern Illinois agency\u2019s entry into the suit, according to the <em>Chicago Tribune.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bone of contention is the Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act,&#8221; reports\u00a0Anugrah Kumar of the Christian Post, &#8220;which came into effect in Illinois on June 1 allowing homosexuals in civil unions the right to adopt or provide foster care.
