On Wednesday, Huffington Post blogger Frank Schaeffer, son of the late best-selling author and conservative Christian philosopher\u00a0Francis Schaeffer,\u00a0appeared on MSNBC\u00a0to promote his new book Sex, Mom, and God: How the Bible\u2019s Strange Take on Sex Led to Crazy Politics\u2013and How I Learned to Love Women (and Jesus) Anyway.<\/em><\/p>\n

The book opens with Schaeffer alluding\u00a0to having had\u00a0sex with an ice sculpture.<\/p>\n

On MSNBC, he wasted no time in lambasting Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry\u2019s personal beliefs, branding them as dangerous and not in tune with the \u201creal America.\u201d Schaeffer then\u00a0slammed evangelicals, claiming that they \u201chate the United States,\u201d among other charges.<\/p>\n

When speaking with Richard Lui, who was guest-hosting for Martin Bashir, Schaeffer said\u00a0of Bachmann and her supporters:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026these people actually hate the United States as it is. Look, they love a fictional, Christian America that wouldn\u2019t include gay people, does not have choice and abortion rights for women and all the rest of this. But, in terms of the real America, inclusive, diverse, sustaining of gay people as well as heterosexuals and so forth, this is an America they despise and that\u2019s why they talk in terms of taking it back, from whom? That would be from the rest of us, ordinary American citizens under the rule of law.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Earlier in the interview,\u00a0he said\u00a0Republicans need to choose to either be \u201ca normal political party\u201d or a \u201ctheocracy in waiting.\u201d Then, he\u00a0charged that Bachmann would \u201c\u2026produce a theocracy in the country where the Bible would be paramount and no longer the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.\u201d<\/p>\n
