Glen Powell has no interest in joining Hollywood\u2019s political battles.<\/p>\n

The \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d star says he deliberately stays away from politics because he believes political conversations have become increasingly divisive \u2014 and he would rather use his platform to bring people together.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver time, I realized that politics divide people,\u201d Powell told Esquire. \u201cPeople trying to prove their point \u2014 for me, it\u2019s the worst version of a conversation. I genuinely do not like the discourse. It\u2019s not as healthy as it once was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Powell said he respects people who publicly advocate for their political beliefs, but he doesn\u2019t believe that is his role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI applaud people for jumping into those things and fighting for what they believe in,\u201d he said. \u201cIf I were a political person, I would be talking about it. For me, my calling is elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a position Powell has expressed before. In a 2025 interview with The Guardian, he offered a simple explanation for why he avoids political debates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a political person,\u201d he said. \u201cI like things that bring people together.\u201d<\/p>\n

That approach appears rooted partly in his upbringing. Although Powell\u2019s mother worked in the Reagan administration at the U.S. Treasury Department, he said politics and current events were not regular topics around his family\u2019s dinner table.<\/p>\n

Instead, Powell sees movies as his way of communicating with people from different backgrounds and viewpoints.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a universal language of action,\u201d he told Esquire, noting that action movies can explore themes audiences understand regardless of their politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you\u2019re not going to see me talk politics. But movies \u2014 that\u2019s how I express myself,\u201d Powell said. \u201cMovies are a conversation; politics always felt to me like two people trying to prove a point.\u201d<\/p>\n

Powell has become one of Hollywood\u2019s most recognizable leading men following roles in \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d \u201cAnyone But You\u201d and \u201cTwisters.\u201d But his success came after years of struggling to establish himself as an actor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a point where I realized that acting is not a meritocracy,\u201d he previously told \u201cCBS Mornings.\u201d Powell spent more than a decade working toward the level of success he now enjoys, picking up experience not only as an actor but also in writing, producing and developing projects.<\/p>\n

Away from Hollywood\u2019s political debates, Powell is also emphasizing the importance of shared values in his personal life.<\/p>\n

The actor opened up to Esquire about his relationship with \u201cLandman\u201d actress Michelle Randolph, saying their mutual commitment to family is part of what brought them together.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have the same values,\u201d Powell said. \u201cShe loves her family. I love my family. And we both care about work a lot. We both like to show up for our partners.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Powell, that support goes deeper than career success.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something so lovely about someone rooting for you,\u201d he said. \u201cSomeone who wants you to win in all the ways that are good for you as a human.
