Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned as U.S. ambassador to Greece after the White House asked her to step down amid allegations of financial misconduct and inappropriate workplace behavior. The former Fox News<\/em> personality and longtime Trump ally denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

The resignation follows reports raising questions about Guilfoyle\u2019s financial dealings, relationships with political associates, and treatment of embassy employees.<\/p>\n

At a White House press briefing on Tuesday, press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed that the administration requested Guilfoyle\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,\u201d Zacharia said.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump said a day earlier that he was \u201clooking at\u201d the allegations and was \u201cnot happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guilfoyle announced her resignation in a statement on X<\/a>, defending her record as ambassador and highlighting diplomatic accomplishments during her tenure.<\/p>\n

She pointed to agreements that expand American natural gas exports to Europe, strengthen U.S. defense cooperation with Greece, and reduce Europe\u2019s dependence on Russian energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am especially proud of the role our Embassy has played in strengthening American energy dominance, advancing economic cooperation, and ensuring that the United States remains the indispensable leader in Southeast Europe,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Guilfoyle also rejected the accusations, calling them \u201cfalse\u201d and promising to \u201cvigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The controversy intensified after a Wall Street Journal<\/em> investigation detailed<\/a> communications between Guilfoyle and Eric Deters, a former congressional candidate who reportedly sought her assistance with legal and financial matters.<\/p>\n

According to the newspaper, Deters paid Guilfoyle hundreds of thousands of dollars over several years and sought help connecting with influential figures, including former IRS Commissioner Billy Long and conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.<\/p>\n

Messages reviewed by the newspaper reportedly showed Guilfoyle discussing payments, personal financial obligations, and efforts to arrange introductions.<\/p>\n

In one exchange, Deters complained, \u201cI have paid you $300,000 over the years. I have not received one favor.\u201d<\/p>\n

A separate Wall Street Journal<\/em> report<\/a> raised questions about Guilfoyle\u2019s relationship with a lobbyist connected to a Greek construction company.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail<\/em> reported allegations<\/a> that Guilfoyle engaged in excessive drinking and verbally mistreated embassy staff, and said the State Department\u2019s inspector general had opened an investigation.<\/p>\n

These remain allegations, and the reports provided established no finding of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

Guilfoyle, who was confirmed by the Senate in 2025, previously worked as a Fox News host and prosecutor. She was once engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and was previously married to California Gov. Gavin Newsom.<\/p>\n

Her departure ends a diplomatic assignment that lasted less than a year and leaves the administration searching for a new ambassador to Greece.<\/p>\n
