Vice President JD Vance is opening up about one of life’s biggest questions \u2014 and admitting that even as his Christian faith has grown stronger, he still wrestles with doubts.<\/p>\n

During a recent appearance<\/a> on “The Bryce Crawford Podcast,” Vance was asked a question Crawford poses to his guests: On a scale of one to 10, how confident are you that you will go to heaven?<\/p>\n

“Oh man, that is a tough question,” Vance replied. “It’s high, but it’s not a 10, right? I mean, it’s a seven, or it’s an eight.”<\/p>\n

The vice president explained that his answer comes partly from the doubts he continues to experience.<\/p>\n

“I’m always one of these people who is always going to have little doubts,” he said.<\/p>\n

Vance said his confidence has actually increased significantly over the past year. Had Crawford asked him the same question a year earlier, Vance said he probably would have answered “a five or a six.”<\/p>\n

When asked what changed, Vance acknowledged that he still sometimes wonders whether Christianity is really true. But he also made an explicit profession of his faith in Christ.<\/p>\n

“I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe He’s my Savior,” Vance said, adding that he tries to “walk the path of faith” and believes that path ultimately leads to heaven. Still, he acknowledged, “I’m not 100% certain.”<\/p>\n

The candid exchange offered a glimpse into the faith journey of Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019 and has spoken publicly about returning to Christianity after a period of atheism. His religious beliefs were a major topic throughout the wide-ranging interview, which also touched on artificial intelligence, the end times and what Vance described as spiritual darkness he has sensed in certain settings.<\/p>\n

When the conversation returned to salvation, Vance clarified that his uncertainty was not about whether he had performed enough good deeds to earn his way into heaven. Crawford emphasized the Christian teaching that salvation depends not on a person’s record of good works but on Christ’s sacrifice and forgiveness.<\/p>\n

Instead, Vance said part of his lingering doubt centers on a more fundamental question: whether death could ultimately lead to “nothing” on the other side.<\/p>\n

Even so, he described his faith as growing rather than fading.<\/p>\n

“I feel more confident today that God exists than I have probably at any other point in my life,” Vance said.<\/p>\n

Vance’s comments touch on a struggle familiar to many Christians: the tension between faith and moments of doubt. Scripture teaches that salvation is not earned through good deeds but comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
