A band associated with The Satanic Temple has released a provocative new music video depicting a woman performing the group’s so-called “abortion ritual” inside a Hobby Lobby bathroom before showing Christian merchandise engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n

Satanic Planet, whose members include Satanic Temple co-founder Lucien Greaves, released the graphic video<\/a> for its song “Sam Alito’s Mom.” The title references The Satanic Temple’s online abortion clinic, which says it provides abortion medication by mail to people in New Mexico who want to participate in the organization’s “Religious Abortion Ritual.”<\/p>\n

The video shows a woman entering the women’s restroom at a Hobby Lobby store and re-enacting the ritual. According to text appearing in the video, the ceremony is intended to help participants “cast off guilt” and feel empowered against people with “theocratic religious convictions.”<\/p>\n

The ritual itself emphasizes personal autonomy and self-affirmation. In the video, the woman looks into a mirror before taking abortion medication. She later returns to her reflection and recites, “By my body, my blood, by my will, it is done.”<\/p>\n

The video then takes a more direct aim at Christianity. Its closing scenes show Christian-themed products associated with Hobby Lobby engulfed in flames, including an image of Jesus with children, Scripture plaques, a “One Nation Under God” sign and a cross featuring the words “faith,” “hope,” and “love.”<\/p>\n

The song appears on Satanic Planet’s new album, Dead Deities<\/em>, which the band describes as an aggressive response to what it calls “Christian nationalism.”<\/p>\n

Hobby Lobby has long been a target of The Satanic Temple because of the Christian-owned retailer’s involvement in a landmark religious liberty case. In 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that closely held companies such as Hobby Lobby could claim religious objections to providing certain contraceptive coverage required under federal regulations.<\/p>\n

The Satanic Temple later pointed to the decision while arguing that its own religious beliefs should exempt members from some abortion restrictions.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2012 and based in Salem, Massachusetts, The Satanic Temple says it does not believe in or worship a literal Satan. Instead, the organization says it uses Satan as a symbol of resistance to tyranny while promoting reason, bodily autonomy and individual conscience.<\/p>\n

Some Christian critics, including evangelist and former occultist John Ramirez, have challenged that distinction.<\/p>\n

“These people are a bunch of jokes because this is how they trap people,” Ramirez told Fox News in 2023 ahead of The Satanic Temple’s SatanCon gathering in Boston.<\/p>\n

Ramirez, who says he spent 25 years involved in occult practices before becoming a Christian, argued that Satanic imagery should not be dismissed simply because its practitioners deny worshiping a literal devil.<\/p>\n

“This society has lost its conscience of right from wrong,” he said. “We don’t even blush anymore. Whatever is right in people’s eyes, that’s what they do.”<\/p>\n

For Christians, the video is likely to raise concerns far beyond its graphic treatment of abortion. By deliberately placing the ritual inside a Christian-owned business and ending with Christian imagery in flames, Satanic Planet appears intent on provoking the very religious convictions it says it is opposing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
