A British driver says his car insurance was effectively revoked after his insurer objected to two simple messages proclaiming “Jesus loves you” on the side of his vehicle, raising fresh questions about religious expression in public life.<\/p>\n

Simeon Chandra, 35, says GoSkippy informed him that his policy would not continue unless he removed the Christian stickers from his 2009 Nissan Pixo and provided photographic proof that they had been taken off. The Christian Legal Centre<\/a>, which is supporting Chandra, says the insurer described the stickers as an unauthorized vehicle modification but did not explain why the messages themselves posed a problem.<\/p>\n

Photos of the vehicle show the phrases “Jesus loves you” and “Jesus loves you v much” displayed<\/a> in green tape on opposite sides of the car.<\/p>\n

“I was shocked, surprised and upset when they told me I had to take the stickers off,” Chandra said in a statement shared by the Christian Legal Centre. “The message on my car is very simple: ‘Jesus Loves You.’ It is not abusive, political, hateful or commercial. It is a message of hope.”<\/p>\n

According to correspondence cited by the legal group, GoSkippy instructed Chandra that the stickers must be removed before his policy could continue, and that a dated photograph confirming they had been removed was required.<\/p>\n

Chandra said he voluntarily disclosed the stickers to his insurer because he wanted to follow the rules. Instead, he said, he felt his rights to freedom of religion and freedom of expression had been undermined.<\/p>\n

“I could not understand why this would mean I could not have car insurance,” he said. “We see all kinds of messages, flags and slogans in public life. But when a Christian puts a peaceful message on his own car, suddenly it appears to become a problem.”<\/p>\n

Now working with lawyers at the Christian Legal Centre, Chandra is considering legal action. He says he hopes to put the stickers back on his vehicle and wants other Christians to feel confident expressing their faith publicly without fear of losing access to essential services.<\/p>\n

Chandra’s Christian faith has deep family roots. Raised by parents who served as Christian missionaries, he became a Christian while attending university. His father converted from Hinduism to Christianity, while his mother embraced the faith after she said she experienced healing from an injured leg during a church service.<\/p>\n

Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, said the case extends beyond one driver’s insurance policy. She argued that if companies can deny services because someone displays a peaceful Christian message, it raises broader concerns about religious liberty and freedom of expression.<\/p>\n
