Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt has scored an endorsement from actor Dennis Quaid in his bid to replace Democrat Karen Bass. Pratt\u2019s rise from a hunky California bad boy on the popular reality show \u201cThe Hills\u201d to mayoral candidate couldn\u2019t be better material for the medium that brought him fame. Pratt, a registered Republican running in the city\u2019s nonpartisan race, has centered his campaign on tackling the city\u2019s homelessness problem, its disastrous response to the Palisades wildfires, and the rising costs of doing business in the city.<\/p>\n

That platform has now earned him the endorsement of actor Dennis Quaid, which he announced during the 2nd Annual Military & Veteran Entertainment Awards Gala on May 23. \u201cWhy? What are you talking about? Why? Just look around, man,\u201d he told Fox News Digital<\/em><\/a>. Like Pratt, Quaid lost his home during the Palisades Fire. Quaid, who describes himself as a \u201ccommon sense independent,\u201d was an outspoken critic of incumbent Karen Bass\u2019s response to the fire, particularly of her trip to Ghana during the height of the disaster. Pratt has earned support from other celebrities like former California native Joe Rogan who left the state for Texas, Jamie Kennedy, Paris Hilton, and Adam Carolla.<\/p>\n

Pratt\u2019s support has enabled him to shoot to second place behind Bass. In California, a candidate must receive 50% of the support to be elected. If no candidate receives 50%, the top two candidates will face a runoff election. If polling remains consistent, that means Pratt and Bass could very well face off in November.<\/p>\n

Of course, Pratt does have his detractors in Hollywood, particularly those who poke fun at his less than scrupulous portrayal during his \u201cHills\u201d tenure. Late night host Jimmy Kimmel referred to Pratt as \u201cthe screaming jerk on reality shows\u201d and compared him to President Donald Trump, saying Pratt \u201cwants to be a star again\u201d while adding \u201cit\u2019s exactly what Donald Trump did.\u201d He encouraged those who didn\u2019t like Bass to vote for \u201csomebody who isn\u2019t wasting our time and money to get back on television.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pratt has pushed back, claiming he is running because of his love of the city. \u201cI only got into the race because nobody else was going to run. I had to step up for my community and for Los Angeles,\u201d he told CNBC\u2019s <\/em>\u201cSquawk on the Street.\u201d In a city and state that leans highly Democrat, he has also been careful to come off too partisan. \u201cI don\u2019t do national politics.
