As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Pastor Robert Jeffress is urging Christians to look beyond politics and back to the nation’s spiritual foundation, warning that neither party can fix what he sees as a deeper moral crisis.<\/p>\n

In a message<\/a> titled “America at the Crossroads,”<\/em> the senior pastor of First Baptist Dallas reflected on the country’s founding and the role faith played in shaping its earliest days. He pointed to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, where leaders wrestled with division but ultimately turned to prayer.<\/p>\n

Quoting Benjamin Franklin, Jeffress reminded listeners of a moment when the Founding Fathers acknowledged their dependence on God. “In the beginning of the contest with Britain\u2026we had daily prayers in this room for divine protection,” Franklin said at the time. “Have we now forgotten this powerful friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need His assistance?”<\/p>\n

Jeffress used that historical moment to challenge modern Americans, suggesting that the nation has drifted from the faith that once guided it. He also referenced John Adams’ vision for celebrating independence and Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Thanksgiving proclamation, issued during one of the bloodiest chapters of the Civil War.<\/p>\n

“Why would you offer thanks to God in a time of such loss?” Jeffress asked, recounting Lincoln’s call for the nation to look “heavenward” even in suffering. “He said we need to remember God’s blessings.”<\/p>\n

While emphasizing America’s Christian heritage, Jeffress also offered a sobering perspective on its future. He noted that Scripture does not assign the United States a central role in End Times prophecy, suggesting that no nation\u2014no matter how powerful\u2014is guaranteed permanence.<\/p>\n

According to Jeffress, several trends could accelerate America’s decline, including moral disintegration, global conflict, and shifting attitudes toward Israel. Citing recent polling, he pointed to growing skepticism among Americans toward the Israeli government as a potential warning sign of broader geopolitical changes.<\/p>\n

“It’s not hard to see how America could ultimately desert Israel,” he said, adding that such a shift could have serious consequences. “That isolation\u2026will impact other nations like the United States. It will decimate those nations.”<\/p>\n

Still, Jeffress made clear that his message was not one of hopelessness. Instead, he called on Christians to take responsibility for shaping the culture\u2014not primarily through political debate but through spiritual action.<\/p>\n

Drawing from the biblical call to “choose life,” he encouraged believers to stand for religious liberty, pray for the nation, and engage thoughtfully in civic life. But he stressed that the most important mission remains sharing the Gospel.<\/p>\n

“Can I just tell you what I know to be true? Both political parties\u2026are intensely corrupt,” Jeffress said. “They cannot change anything. It is only the Gospel that can do that.”<\/p>\n

He went on to describe what he sees as a troubling shift among Christians, who may be more comfortable discussing political issues than talking about their faith.<\/p>\n

“That’s tragic,” he said. “We have the message that will change the world.”<\/p>\n

As America nears this historic milestone, Jeffress’ message serves as both a warning and a call to action\u2014urging believers to remember the nation’s spiritual roots while focusing on the eternal hope found in Christ.<\/p>\n
