In a 2006 poll, 45 percent of those asked said they supported such civil unions.<br \/>\nA majority of polled Americans, 55 percent, also expressed support for legal abortion, a figure that&#8217;s remained consistent for five years.<br \/>\nThe poll results have a 3 percentage points margin of error.
