In a supernatural display of forgiveness, Charlie Kirk\u2019s widow, Erika Kirk, stated she forgave her husband\u2019s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, during Kirk\u2019s memorial on September 21st<\/sup>. Mrs. Kirk was addressing the crowd, where she spoke of she and her later husband\u2019s devotion to one another, including sharing love notes and how her husband would ask how he could serve her better as a husband. She described the dark moment of staring at her husband\u2019s lifeless body and the way God had upheld her during her darkest trials.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Kirk then shared about her husband\u2019s passion for the lost. \u201cCharlie passionately wanted to reach and save the lost boys of the West. The young men who feel like they have no direction, no purpose, no faith and no reason to live. The men wasting their lives on distractions, and the men consumed with resentment, anger, and hate. Charlie wanted to help them,\u201d she said. \u201cMy husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men just like the one who took his life,\u201d she said, referencing Robinson, who is 22. \u201cThat young man. That young man\u2026\u201d a visibly emotional Kirk said. \u201cOn the cross, our Savior said, \u2018Father, forgive them for they not know what they do.\u2019 That man, that young man, I forgive him,\u201d she added, to a roar of applause. \u201cI forgive him, because it was what Christ did, and is what Charlie would do.\u201d She shared that the answer to hate was not more hate. \u201cThe answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us,\u201d she said firmly.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Kirk\u2019s decision to offer forgiveness was praised across social media and other outlets. \u201cThat\u2019s what forgiveness is about,\u201d actor Dennis Quaid told Piers Morgan on his show<\/a>. \u201cSo that you don\u2019t have to carry it yourself\u2026She\u2019s right. That\u2019s what Charlie would\u2019ve done himself, I think. She\u2019s an amazing, amazing person\u2026I think his killing has created a MILLION Charlie Kirks\u2026\u201d \u201c\u2018I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did.\u2019 – Erika Kirk I have never witnessed anything more powerful or moving,\u201d wrote Kid Rock on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some people, however, worried that such a public display of forgiveness might weaken a death penalty case against Robinson. \u201cI get the discomfort some have shown with Erika Kirk’s public forgiveness of her husband’s assassin,\u201d wrote one user on X<\/a>, noting the concern for having conservatives look weak and leftists exploiting that weakness. \u201cHowever, forgiveness offered for enemies is not a weakness and does not undermine civil justice or the magistrates’ execution of God’s wrath against the evildoer. On the contrary, in publicly forgiving her husband’s killer, Erika Kirk delivered the most brutal blow to our enemies we could have hoped for,\u201d he added. \u201cThe magistrate can wield the sword, cutting through flesh and bone. But the gospel can wield the two-edged sword, piercing heart and soul. Forgiveness isn’t weakness.
