They found a record-setting <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/04\/27\/politics\/approval-rating-trump-100-days?cid=ios_app\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">41% approval rating<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the lowest for any elected U.S. leader since the Eisenhower Administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number is a national average based on a swath of Americans of various ages, cultures, faiths, and political persuasions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, one group stands alone in supporting Trump\u2014only one. White Evangelicals far surpass the national average of those who believe in progress from the current administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2025\/04\/28\/white-evangelicals-continue-to-stand-out-in-their-support-for-trump\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the recent Pew Research poll<\/span><\/a>, white Evangelicals remain the president&#8217;s most assertive supporters.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">72% approve of how Trump currently handles his job as president<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">69% rate the ethics of top Trump administration officials as excellent or good<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">57% say they trust what Trump says more than previous presidents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current numbers could be mistaken for a cultural or racial divide instead of a religious one. Pew notes that Hispanic Catholics provide the president <\/span>26% approval, which is tied with the \u201creligious unaffiliated\u201d in America. Offering the least amount of support are Black Protestants, who give Trump a 10% approval rating.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nothing is surprising about those cultural numbers because they have mirrored partisan numbers. White Evangelicals tend to make up most Republicans, whereas Hispanic Catholics and Black Protestants comprise most Democrats. Another note in the Pew poll is that there is one area of unanimous action among all groups\u2014approval dropped everywhere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among Americans, Trump\u2019s job approval rating has been down 7% since February. There have been similar declines among individual religious groups, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 6-point drop among White evangelicals (from 78% to 72%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An 8-point drop among Black Protestants (from 18% to 10%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An 8-point drop among White Catholics (from 59% to 51%)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 7-point drop among religiously unaffiliated Americans (from 33% to 26%)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support of political parties and like-minded issues are among the greatest polarizing topics today. If the sitting administration advocates for a particular way of managing the economy, immigration, or foreign trade, half of the country is a sure lock for ardent support, and the other half is vitriolic in their disapproval.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/fox-news\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March 2025 Fox News poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows Trump&#8217;s precipitous decline in comparison with past presidents. At the last 100 days mark, George W. Bush was polled at a 62% approval rating, Barack Obama at 62%, and Biden at 54%. With Donald Trump\u2019s approval rating at -19 points, Republican officials remained strong allies of his administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2016, Pew Research <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2016\/11\/09\/how-the-faithful-voted-a-preliminary-2016-analysis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">released a poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to show how those same White Evangelicals stand along the GOP line:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2004 \u2013 78% favored George W. Bush<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2008 \u2013 74% favored John McCain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2012 \u2013 78% favored Mitt Romney<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2016 \u2013 81% favored Donald Trump\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, in 2020, Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/white-evangelical-voters-support-donald-trump-president-dbfd2b4fe5b2ea27968876f19ee20c84\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">earned 80%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the White Evangelical vote. However, it\u2019s not a racial or partisan concern that keeps them aligned hard with the GOP; it\u2019s ethics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clear majorities of Black Protestants (88%), religiously unaffiliated adults (76%) and Hispanic Catholics (72%) say the ethical standards of top Trump administration officials are only fair or poor. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That notwithstanding, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">57% of White Evangelicals say they trust Trump\u2019s words more than those of previous presidents.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likewise, Black Protestants (65%) and religiously unaffiliated adults (64%) say they trust what Trump says less than what previous presidents said in office.
