Popular ice cream brand Ben and Jerry\u2019s found itself blasted by conservatives again after it shared a post in support of abortion providers. The company shared the post<\/a> to commemorate National Abortion Providers Day on March 10. \u201cToday is National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day!\u201d the post said. \u201cWe stand with abortion providers today and every day.\u201d It also included a link<\/a> to a statement from the company of \u201cReasons We Stand with Providers on Abortion Provider Appreciation Day \u2014 And Every Day.\u201d The reasons included accusations that people on the right are silencing abortion providers, providers are being threatened and\/or attacked, laws against abortion target communities of color, and that abortion care providers need support to fight back. \u201cAt the ballot box, on the streets, and in courtrooms, the movement to preserve bodily autonomy is fighting back to protect abortion care providers and reproductive justice,\u201d the company stated. \u201cYes, some within the new administration have laid out plans that include attacks on medication abortion and access to birth control\u2014and even a nationwide abortion ban. But let’s not forget that 85 percent of Americans believe abortion should be legal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservatives were quick to respond to the post, with Dr. Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate, calling it \u201cdisgusting.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s disgusting that you\u2019re cheering for the slaughter of innocent human beings. Disgusting,\u201d she wrote<\/a>. Outkick<\/em><\/a> mocked the ice cream company, calling it \u201cthe most insufferable company in America.\u201d \u201cThere are a ton of awful companies in America right now \u2013 Elon’s working on it, don’t worry! \u2013 but Ben & Jerry’s takes the cake \u2026 by a mile,\u201d asserted Outkick. <\/em>\u201cThey hate the right. They hate white people. They hate straight people. And, apparently, they hate babies. What a stance to take on an otherwise slow Tuesday in March.\u201d The site also encouraged its readers to switch to Blue Bell ice cream. \u201cTragic,\u201d wrote Senator Ted Cruz<\/a>. \u201cBen & Jerry\u2019s hates you and openly hates your values.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time the ice cream company has taken a controversial stance. The company was accused of antisemitism after it announced<\/a> it would no longer be selling its brand in Israel, terming Israel \u201coccupied Palestinian territory.\u201d Graphic designer Susannah Levin left the company<\/a> over what she stated was an increasingly hostile environment after she questioned some of the company\u2019s messaging. \u201cA company that chooses to appease an interest group by making a political statement is really selling their company\u2019s name and reputation in exchange for what they think will win points with activists and they are altering the workplace for their own employees. It feels threatening to work for a company that makes strong public statements for a cause with which you disagree,\u201d she said. \u201cThe result is that people just \u2018self-censor\u2019 \u2013 or shut up.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
