President Trump recalled the assassination attempt that nearly took his life in July during his inauguration speech. \u201cThe journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one. Those who which to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom, and indeed, to take my life,\u201d the President acknowledged. \u201cAn assassin\u2019s bullet ripped through my ear, but I felt then and believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again.\u201d He declared that \u201cthe golden age of America begins right now.\u201d \u201cWe will be the envy of every nation and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. I will, very simply, put America first.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of Trump\u2019s big moves so far have been an executive order that the government will only recognize \u201cmale and female,\u201d as well as executive orders to tackle issues of immigration and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). President Trump stated he would be pushing for an America that is \u201ccolorblind and merit-based.\u201d He stated he would also declare a national emergency at the southern border. \u201cWe will not forget our country, we will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our God,\u201d he said. He also criticized moves by former president Joe Biden. \u201cWe have a government that has given unlimited funding to the defense of foreign borders but refuses to defend its own borders.\u201d<\/p>\n

President outlined an ambitious outlook for the country\u2019s future, including sending astronauts to Mars and bringing down rising costs. \u201cAmbition is the lifeblood of a great nation and right now our nation is more ambitious than any other. To every parent who dreams for their child and every child who dreams for their future: I am with you, I will fight for you, and I will win for you. We\u2019re going to win like never before,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Trump has referred often to the assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, PA. He honored Corey Comperatore<\/a>, the firefighter and father who was killed during the rally by bullets met for the President, during his inauguration parade. Butler county first responders carried Comperatore\u2019s fire jacket during the parade. There was also a moment of silence held in Comperatore\u2019s honor. President Trump has also nominated Sean Curran, one of the men that can be seen shielding the Trump in the iconic photo after he stood back up from being shot, as the new Secret Service Director. Curran is the head of Trump\u2019s current personal security detail and his appointment does not need to be approved by the Senate.<\/p>\n
