The ad began with 1 John 4:11, which states, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God.” Following the text were four separate clips of former president Donald Trump behaving in what the group clearly believes to be ungodly ways. One such clip showed Trump referring to his own popularity and jokingly saying, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK? It’s, like, incredible.” Another clip showed him joking about indicting someone who was beating him in the polls. Another clip showed Trump declaring himself as the only one who could fix the problems of America, and another referring to a group of people as, “poisoning the blood of our country.” The ad ends with a text stating “Read 1 John 4. Choose Christ’s Love. Let Our Witness Be Good News.”

Reporter David Brody brought attention to the ad on X, stating it would “ruffle some conservative evangelical feathers.” “This ad is no doubt going to ruffle some conservative evangelical feathers. Those who support Trump see him as someone promoting biblical values when it comes to policy,” wrote Brody. “They’ll also mightily argue that it’s actually the Christian Left that is spreading a false presentation of the biblical message. However, Evangelicals For Harris wants Christian voters to question what they believe is a rhetoric that lacks ‘Christian Witness’ and is fully void of the, ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ Biblical Commandment.” He referred to a Pew Research Center poll that showed despite evangelical support for Trump still being strong, 25% of evangelicals still seem either lukewarm or doubtful about his presidency. “If Kamala Harris wins 20 percent or more of these skeptical evangelicals, she’ll win. That’s what history tells us. Just ask Joe Biden who did it and Hillary Clinton who didn’t,” concluded Brody.

Of course, the group Evangelicals for Harris has faced its own criticism from conservative Christians, particularly for Harris’s support of abortion. Abortion was a major issue as the DNC kicked off this week, with many DNC speakers throwing their support behind unfettered access to abortion and Planned Parenthood hosting a clinic to receive free abortions and vasectomies.

Samuel Sey of “Slow to Write,” had strong words against the group. “The Evangelicals for Harris campaign is a contradiction in terms. ‘Evangelicals for Harris’ is as absurd as Jews for Pharaoh, Christians for Emperor Nero, or evangelicals for Satan,” he wrote. “There is no such thing as ‘Evangelicals for Harris.’ If you’re voting for Kamala Harris, you are not an evangelical. Everyone knows this, including Evangelicals for Harris.” He did not, however, leave Donald Trump and evangelicals who support him clear of blame either. “If I were an American citizen, I would vote for Donald Trump. But too many [evangelicals] have become unequally yoked with him. Rather than partnering with him for righteousness’s sake, too many evangelicals have partnered with him for lawlessness’s sake,” warned Sey. “Therefore, some evangelicals refuse to rebuke him for his recent position on abortion. This position has conditioned Republicans to become lukewarm on abortion for this election, which could lead to disaster for the abortion amendments in 8 states in November.” He called Trump’s position on abortion “deplorable” and Harris’s “demonic.” He further called Harris “an anti-Christ politician masquerading as a Christian.” Despite Trump’s shortcomings, however, Sey concluded that Harris’s were worse. “The Bible says we evangelicals should have a life that is worthy of the good news (Philippians 1:27. That includes a vote that is worthy of the good news. Meaning, we cannot vote for Kamala Harris.”

The group “Evangelicals for Harris” released a 35 second ad on X, declaring Donald Trump to be a false prophet and asking viewers to reconsider their support of him.
