New audio recordings have revealed what an airplane pilot’s final moments were like before his plane crashed where 3 children were among the victims. The pilot told the air traffic controller “I\u2019m going to be landing, I don\u2019t know where,” in the final moments before his small place crashed alongside Interstate-40 in Nashville where he, another adult and 3 children were killed. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are not investigating what caused the aircraft to crash.<\/p>\n

Metro Nashville Police spokesperson, Don Aaron, said that the control tower at John C. Tune Airport received a message around 7:40 p.m. from an aircraft reporting that it was experiencing engine and power failure, needing emergency approval to land. “Nashville, I\u2019m declaring an emergency. My engine shut down,” the pilot could be heard saying in an audio recording obtained by WYMT. “Are you trying to land at John Tune?” the air traffic controller says. “My engine turned off. I\u2019m at 1,600. I\u2019m going to be landing, I don\u2019t know where,” the pilot responded. The pilot said that the runway at the airport was in sight but ultimately said, “I\u2019m too far away, I won\u2019t make it.”<\/p>\n

In a news conference, National Transportation Safety Board investigator Aaron McCarter revealed that the pilot had another adult and three children on board, all of which are Canadian citizens. The agency is working with the Canadian government to determine their identities.<\/p>\n

“I saw an airplane essentially crash out of the sky, fall out of the sky, and hit the ground at around a 45-degree angle,” witness\u00a0Matthew Wiser\u00a0told the Associated Press. “When it hit the ground, there was a 30-to-40-foot explosion of fire.
