The event was dedicated to Boston Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu, whom the group is <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.law360.com\/cases\/6008a07f56c76e02954afbf7\/articles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">suing<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> for refusing to allow the Temple to deliver an invocation at Boston City Hall. The event touts itself as the \u201clargest satanic gathering in history,\u201d having sold out with over 800 attendants. This year\u2019s theme was \u201cHexennacht in Boston,\u201d which means \u201cWitches\u2019 Night\u201d in German. The Temple has often claimed to be nonreligious and that it does not believe in a personal Satan, rather saying it means to \u201cencourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits.\u201d Events at SatanCon included \u201cunbaptisms,\u201d Satanic weddings, and <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/catholicreview.org\/boston-satancon-prompts-catholics-to-respond-with-prayer-and-the-gospel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">panels<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0with names like \u201cRe-imagining Lilith as an Archetype for Reproductive Justice,\u201d \u201cDeconstructing Your Religious Upbringing,\u201d \u201cReclaiming the Trans Body: A\/theistic Strategies for Self-Determination and Empowerment,\u201d and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Christian groups in the area held their own events nearby, and many prayed for the salvation of the event\u2019s attendees. Speaking with<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/christians-prepare-for-satancon-a-harvest-of-lost-souls.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Christian Post<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, sisters Suzie and Lynn MacAskill, regional leaders of Boston\u2019s Intercessors for America (IFA) chapter, said they are hoping for a harvest of souls. \u201cI initially went to prayer with a preconceived idea that God would want this to be prayed away. It was following this assumption that I was awakened through the night with a clear sense of \u2018This is My harvest field,\u2019\u201d Suzie MacAskill said of the event. The \u201c<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/reviveboston.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Revive Boston<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d Conference also took place that same weekend, where they had small groups go in an attempt to evangelize the SatanCon attendees. Christian protestors came prepared with signs that read, &#8216;Satan has no rights,&#8217; and &#8216;Stop Public Satanism in America.&#8217; Revive Boston&#8217;s leader, Jaymz Sideras warned the SatanCon conference goers saying, &#8220;While they think they are coming to ambush Boston, little do they know that God has planned to ambush them.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Boston\u2019s <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/catholicreview.org\/boston-satancon-prompts-catholics-to-respond-with-prayer-and-the-gospel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Catholic population<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> was also responsible for mass prayer during the event. In an emailed statement, Terrence Donilon, director of communications for the Archdiocese of Boston, shared that Cardinal Se\u00e1n P. O\u2019Malley had encouraged a focus on prayer. \u201cWe are finalizing a list of places throughout our whole Archdiocese where we will gather in adoration and prayer. All of our shrines have agreed to be a part of this, and most of our monasteries. Our men and women religious will be invited to more intense prayer during that weekend,\u201d the statement said. Dominican Father Basil Cole, professor of moral, spiritual and dogmatic theology at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, cautioned Catholics to be alert. He called the Temple\u2019s attempt to present itself as a \u201cjustice-centered\u201d group a \u201ccover.\u201d \u201cThe idea is always to get some phenomenon going in your favor \u2014 revenge, a better job. There are a lot of poor souls looking for help, and all of a sudden, the devil comes along in some mysterious way.\u201d He called the devil\u2019s influence a \u201cslow and sneaky process.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s caused in part by superstition, and it also starts with people wanting to commit very serious sins, like abortion, murder and even pornography,\u201d said Father Cole. \u201cThat allows the devil to influence one a little more.\u201d IFA is pointing Christians to reflect on <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+kings+6%3A15-17&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2 Kings 6:15-17<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, with verse 16 saying, \u201cFear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As April came to an end, Christians in Boston were preparing for SatanCon, which took place in downtown Boston from April 28th to 30th to mark the Satanic Temple\u2019s 10th anniversary.
