A student <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/denver-shooting-east-high-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">had shot<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0two school administrators during a pat down, later taking his own life in an area not far from the school. Reporter Alicia Acuna was on the scene giving coverage when her teenage son, a student of the school,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BryanLlenas\/status\/1638643848682299392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1638643848682299392%7Ctwgr%5E44e5ce90c24270843442fc53e151d05b5ec3eff4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faithwire.com%2F2023%2F03%2F24%2Ffox-news-reporter-hugs-son-live-on-air-as-he-flees-school-shooting-she-was-covering%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">came over and hugged her<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. \u201cI\u2019m so sorry, I\u2019m so sorry,\u201d the reporter said as her son came over. As the two embraced, she could be heard saying to him, \u201cI just need to finish this real quick, OK? You good?\u201d As her son moved off camera, Acuna said, \u201cI\u2019m so sorry. There\u2019s no way you would have let your kid walk by.\u201d She appeared emotional, and another colleague offered to step in so she could be with her son. \u201cHe\u2019s OK \u2014 he\u2019s good,\u201d she said. \u201cHe\u2019s the one who was telling me what was happening, and my sister telling me what her daughter was telling her. Immediately, if not sooner.\u201d Some users took it as an opportunity to take a swipe at the reporter\u2019s perceived political stance, with one user writing, \u201cStill don\u2019t want any common sense gun laws, Alicia?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The board for Denver Public Schools had previously voted to remove all its resource officers from schools in the aftermath of George Floyd\u2019s death. However, after the incident at East High School, Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero wrote a letter to the school board calling for a reinstatement of officers in Denver Public Schools. The board approved his request the next day, following a number of other schools that have reversed bans on police in schools. With the recent events of Nashville\u2019s Covenant School being attacked by a transgender man, the discussion for how to keep schools protected continues in the public discourse. Progressives are calling for widespread gun bans, with <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/03\/27\/biden-assault-weapons-ban-nashville-shooting-00089050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">President Biden<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0calling on Congress to approve his assault weapons ban. On the other side of the aisle, conservatives are calling for more protective measures, such as arming teachers.
