The article, entitled \u201c<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/humor\/borowitz-report\/amy-coney-barrett-searches-bible-for-gods-opinion-of-the-internet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Amy Coney Barrett Searches Bible for God\u2019s Opinion of the Internet,<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d took aim at Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who is known for her faith, stating she \u201ccalled for a recess in arguments before the Supreme Court so that she could search the Bible for God\u2019s views on the Internet.\u201d The article also jokingly stated that Barrett declared, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what we think about the Internet. What does God think about it?\u201d According to the article, the Justice\u2019s clerks were \u201ccombing through the Bible\u201d to find out God\u2019s position without any success after having gone through the first three books of the Bible but were looking to the book of Numbers to provide answers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The article seemed to be taking aim at the Supreme Court\u2019s recent hearing involving <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/bipartisanpolicy.org\/blog\/arguments-gonzalez-v-google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gonzalez v Google<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The case involves the family of Nohemi Gonzalez, a US citizen killed in a terror attack in France in 2015. Gonzalez\u2019s family\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/2022\/21-1333\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">alleges<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0that certain social media platforms, YouTube in particular, help terrorist organizations \u201cto recruit members, plan terrorist attacks, issue terrorist threats, instill fear, and intimidate civilian populations.\u201d The case involves either upholding, modifying, or completely abolishing\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/bipartisanpolicy.org\/blog\/arguments-gonzalez-v-google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Section 230<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0of the Communications Decency Act, which was put in place to shield tech companies from liability for harmful content that is posted on their platforms. Section 230 has been\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/politics\/democrats-and-republicans-agree-that-section-230-is-flawed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hotly debated<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0throughout the last few years, with conservatives alleging that tech companies have misused the standard from its original intent in order to ban conservative voices. Some liberals have also stated that the standard keeps tech companies from liability from the spread of misinformation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Borowitz\u2019s comments about searching the Bible come at a time when Biblical theism, or having a Biblical worldview, is at an <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.faithwire.com\/2023\/02\/28\/researcher-warns-biblical-theism-is-much-closer-to-extinction-in-america-unveils-stunning-stats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">all-time low<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in America, with only 4% of Americans having a Biblical worldview. Borowitz has commonly aimed his satire specifically at religious and conservative individuals. In\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/humor\/borowitz-report\/cruzs-constant-references-to-jesus-drive-millions-to-atheism?mbid=social_facebook\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2015<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Borowitz wrote a satirical commentary stating that \u201cSince Sen. Cruz (R-Texas) announced his candidacy two weeks ago with the words \u2018God isn\u2019t done with America yet,\u2019 a substantial number of Americans \u2018have begun seriously questioning the existence of God,\u2019 said Carol Foyler, the executive director of the American Society of Atheists.\u201d Borowitz\u2019s book,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/10\/06\/books\/review\/profiles-in-ignorance-andy-borowitz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Profiles in Ignorance<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, criticized Republicans from Ronald Reagan to Donald Trump for being \u201cstupid.\u201d Despite admitting that Democrats have some issues, he declared them \u201csupporting players in our national pageant of stupidity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A satire article by NYT columnist Andy Borowitz appeared to mock people who look to the Bible for answers.
