Paul Pelosi was attacked in the couple\u2019s home by a 42-year-old man, David DePape. DePape allegedly broke into their home and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/us\/david-depape-charged-with-attempted-homicide-paul-pelosi-assault.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">attacked Paul Pelosi<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0with a hammer, yelling, \u201cWhere is Nancy?\u201d Police officers who had arrived on the scene after Pelosi called 911 tackled and disarmed DePape.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/27\/politics\/paul-pelosi-attack-video-release\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Body-cam footage<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0from responding officers has been released, apparently showing DePape and Pelosi struggling over the hammer, with DePape verbally refusing police orders to drop the hammer. Audio files after DePape\u2019s arrest have DePape admitting he had intended to take Nancy Pelosi hostage and cause her bodily harm if she lied to him. DePape has currently pled not guilty to all charges filed against him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In an opinion piece by <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/21\/opinion\/nancy-pelosi-maureen-dowd-interview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Maureen Dowd<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Dowd shared Alexandra\u2019s words about what led to the exorcism. \u201cI think [the attack] weighed really heavy on her soul,\u201d she reportedly said. \u201cI think she felt really guilty. I think that really broke her. Over Thanksgiving, she had priests coming, trying to have an exorcism of the house and having prayer services.\u201d Alexandra stated she was surprised this was their first experience of such an attack. \u201cIt\u2019s a miracle that this kind of thing never happened sooner. We were always worried. It\u2019s like your worst fear coming to life.\u201d It was not clear who performed the exorcism, as St. Vincent de Paul Church, Pelosi\u2019s parish, stated none of its staff had been involved in an exorcism or prayer services at the home. \u201cAs far as I know, no exorcism or priest services were performed at her home,\u201d said Fr. Arturo Albano to\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/01\/21\/nancy-pelosi-summons-priests-to-exercise-home-of-evil-spirits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Post<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usccb.org\/prayer-and-worship\/sacraments-and-sacramentals\/sacramentals-blessings\/exorcism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">United States Conference of Bishops<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0defines exorcisms as a \u201cform of prayer that the Church uses against the power of the devil\u201d and \u201cThere are instances when a person needs to be protected against the power of the devil or to be withdrawn from his spiritual dominion. At such times, the Church asks publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ for this protection or liberation through the use of exorcism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0 Pelosi\u2019s relationship with the Catholic Church has been tenuous. Last May, the archbishop of San Francisco, Salvitore Cordileone, ordered priests in the diocese to deny communion to Pelosi due to her stance on abortion. \u201cAfter numerous attempts to speak with Speaker Pelosi to help her understand the grave evil she is perpetrating, the scandal she is causing, and the danger to her own soul she is risking, I have determined that she is not to be admitted to Holy Communion,\u201d Cordileone wrote in a <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/20\/catholic-bishop-bars-communion-to-nancy-pelosi-over-abortion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">tweet<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.
