{"id":16674,"date":"2023-01-30T10:01:50","date_gmt":"2023-01-30T15:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/news\/?p=16674"},"modified":"2023-03-16T16:15:13","modified_gmt":"2023-03-16T20:15:13","slug":"five-students-tragically-killed-in-crash-after-visiting-bible-college-in-wyoming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/news\/2023\/01\/five-students-tragically-killed-in-crash-after-visiting-bible-college-in-wyoming","title":{"rendered":"Five Students Tragically Killed in Crash After Visiting Bible College in Wyoming"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_16695\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16695\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2023\/01\/5-teens-killed-in-car-accident_credit-Sarah-Wimberly-facebook-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16695\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2023\/01\/5-teens-killed-in-car-accident_credit-Sarah-Wimberly-facebook-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16695\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Wimberly \/ Facebook<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Five students killed in a crash by a wrong-way driver while on their way home to Arkansas from a Bible college in Wyoming have been remembered by their community for their strong faith and commitment to evangelism.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/katv.com\/news\/local\/2-current-students-3-former-involved-in-tragic-accident-jackson-hole-bible-college-wyoming-sylvan-hills-high\">KATV<\/a>, Sylvan Hills High School seniors Susana \u201cSuzy\u201d Prime and Ava Luplow, both 18, and three recent graduates, Salomon Correa, 21, Maggie Franco, 20, and 23-year-old Andrea Prime, Suzy\u2019s sister, were driving home from Jackson Hole Bible College on Interstate 80 on Sunday when a Dodge Ram was reported heading east in the westbound lanes.<\/p>\n<p>The pickup truck collided with a passenger car and commercial truck, forcing another truck to swerve into the other side of the road, where the driver collided head-on with the students\u2019 Ford F-150.<\/p>\n<p>The truck and the students\u2019 vehicle were engulfed in flames, killing the five young adults and leaving others with critical injuries.\u00a0Authorities said the driver of the Dodge has been arrested on suspicion of impairment and could face other charges as the investigation unfolds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=116676167986475&amp;id=100089322775531\">On Facebook<\/a>,\u00a0Faith Bible Fellowship, the church all five students attended, mourned the deaths of the students and announced that a combined funeral service would be held on Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. at the Sylvan Hills High School Performing Arts Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur fellowship is mourning the loss of five of our young adults,\u201d the church said. Following the deadly crash, more than 100 people gathered at the Faith Bible Fellowship in Arkansas, the church that the young adults attended, for a candlelight vigil.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2cG5g0MKQWU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Quint Scruggs, an alum of Sylvan Hills High, told the station the community is in disbelief. Scruggs said he went to school with some of the victims, adding that they were \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/katv.com\/news\/local\/2-current-students-3-former-involved-in-tragic-accident-jackson-hole-bible-college-wyoming-sylvan-hills-high\">always joyful<\/a>, I mean, there was never a dull moment, always made you laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two of the young adults, Susana and Ava, worked at the Humble Crumb bakery near their high school, where Maggie had also worked along with family members.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth and Betsy Peters, owners of the bakery, told local\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kark.com\/news\/local-news\/current-former-sylvan-hills-students-die-in-crash-loved-ones-focused-on-their-faith\/?fbclid=IwAR1fm0af7prfmFQwN1bBpzUGEjN3B72lCkV2MlvB7lPS4Ilk6gsAjJuB9vo\">KARK\u00a0<\/a>that they were devastated to learn of the girl\u2019s death. Betsy Peters told the outlet she takes comfort in a recent Bible verse both Susana and Ava had posted on their Instagram accounts: \u201cI consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lydia VanderVate, who grew up in the Faith Bible Fellowship with all five victims, told the outlet the community is devastated by the accident. \u201cIt feels like my heart is broken,\u201d she said. \u201cThey all had such bubbly personalities, could get along, always laughing with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peters and VanderVate told the outlet they are \u201choping to share the Gospel that is currently carrying them through this time of loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRuth said she hopes this story reassures readers and viewers of the character of God and what He has done for them and can do for everyone else, too,\u201d the story added.
