{"id":14958,"date":"2021-05-21T16:48:02","date_gmt":"2021-05-21T20:48:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/news\/?p=14958"},"modified":"2021-05-21T16:50:56","modified_gmt":"2021-05-21T20:50:56","slug":"do-millennials-really-believe-god-exists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/news\/2021\/05\/do-millennials-really-believe-god-exists","title":{"rendered":"Do Millennials Really Believe God Exists?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_14961\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14961\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2021\/05\/people-2566608_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14961\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/140\/2021\/05\/people-2566608_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14961\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">pixabay.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Millennials are exiting the church at an alarming rate, with many Christians wondering if they will come back on their own or if shifts need to occur to bring them back to the church.<\/p>\n<p>A new survey from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found that while 57 percent of Millennials consider themselves Christians, 43 percent \u201cdon\u2019t know, care or believe that God exists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that only 48 percent of Millennials say one should \u201ctreat others as you want them to treat you,\u201d compared to 53 percent of Gen Xers, 81 percent of Boomers and 90 percent of Builders.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 38 percent of Millennials cosign with the statement \u201cyou try to get even with people who have wronged you,\u201d compared to 33 percent of Gen Xers, 12 percent of Boomers and 10 percent of Builders.<\/p>\n<p>According to Barna, the shift in America\u2019s spiritual landscape began almost 60 years ago, starting with progressive changes among Boomers. However, Millennials have aggressively shifted away from lifestyle values and core biblical views.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGen X and the Millennials have solidified dramatic changes in the nation\u2019s central beliefs and lifestyles,\u201d George Barna, CRC director of research, said. \u201cThe result is a culture in which core institutions, including churches and basic ways of life, are continually being radically defined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that Millennials are far more likely than other generations to be liberal regarding fiscal and social policies, consider premarital sex with someone expected to be their future spouse morally acceptable and champion liberal theology, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>Barna said the survey results warn of a significant shift and challenge for the future of the Christian faith in our country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Christian churches, pastors, schools and individuals believe that a biblical Christian faith is important \u2013 not just for themselves but also for our nation and the world beyond it \u2013 time is running out to aggressively and strategically act on that belief,\u201d Catholic League president Bill Donohue cautioned. \u201cBefore those who vehemently disagree succeed in destroying the freedom and opportunity to preserve the ways of God.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Millennials are exiting the church at an alarming rate, with many Christians wondering if they will come back on their own or if shifts need to occur to bring them back to the church.
