In a 20-minute farewell address published Tuesday afternoon, outgoing President Donald Trump expressed his pride in having served as the 45th commander-in-chief and urged Americans to come together in prayer for President-elect Joe Biden and for the continued success of the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis week,\u201d he said during the address, \u201cwe inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe extend our best wishes,\u201d Trump said, referring to Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. \u201cAnd we also want them to have luck \u2014 a very important word.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Republican leader praised the American people for always displaying \u201cunmatched courage, confidence, and fierce independence.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cA nation is only as strong as its spirit,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe are only as dynamic as our pride. We are only as vibrant as the faith that beats in the hearts of our people. No nation can long thrive that loses faith in its own values, history, and heroes \u2014 for these are the very sources of our unity and our vitality.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was the same profound love of our God-given freedom that willed our soldiers into battle and our astronauts into space,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAs I think back on the past four years, one image rises in my mind above all others: Whenever I traveled all along the motorcade route, there were thousands and thousands of people. They came out with their families so they could stand as we passed and proudly wave our great American flag.\u201d<\/p>\n
