President Donald Trump said he is “praying for” two police officers that were shot in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident occurred as protests were happening in the city over the announcement of the grand jury decision in the Bronna Taylor case.<\/p>\n
\u201cPraying for the two police officers that were shot tonight in Louisville, Kentucky,\u201d the president tweeted. \u201cThe Federal Government stands behind you and is ready to help.\u201d<\/p>\n
The president added that he had spoken to Kentucky\u2018s governor, Andy Beshear, a Democrat, and that \u201cwe are prepared to work together, immediately upon request!\u201d<\/p>\n
Louisville\u2019s interim police chief announced late on Wednesday that a suspect was in custody in relation to the shooting of the two officers, both of whom are expected to recover, the chief said.<\/p>\n
An hour later, as protests continued, Trump tweeted again saying “Law & Order”. Furthermore, Trump said on Thursday that violence at political protests was \u201cunacceptable\u201c and should be dealt with swiftly.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2018s fine to do that in a peaceful manner,\u201c he said. \u201cWhen it gets less than peaceful, as you see all over, that\u2018s unacceptable. That\u2018s when law and order is necessary, and that\u2018s where law enforcement is very important.\u201c<\/p>\n
The Louisville Metro Police officers were shot about 30 minutes before the city\u2019s 9 p.m. curfew. One of the cops was shot in the abdomen, below a bullet-proof vest, and was rushed to surgery. The second officer was hit in the thigh.<\/p>\n
Before the shooting occurred, Trump also offered sympathy to the family of Taylor.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2018s a sad thing, and I give my regards to the family of Breonna,\u201c Trump said outside the White House before heading to a campaign event. \u201cI also think it\u2018s so sad what is happening with everything about that case \u2014 including [to] law enforcement.\u201c<\/p>\n
“So many people suffering, so many people needlessly suffering,\u201c he added. \u201cBut with respect to Breonna, we give our regards to the family.\u201c<\/p>\n
