In an interview this week on “The Patriot and The Preacher”, Trump spiritual adviser Paula White said that she, along with other evangelicals who see Trump regularly, has encouraged him to not speak about his faith in Christ openly.<\/p>\n
The recommendation came when Trump first started running for president in 2015. The media tried to trip the now-President up with unfair theological questions. Trump’s team then asked that he “keep faith very private and personal and hold it close” to avoid unfair critique.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw them coming at him with a theological question, and I knew that he didn\u2019t know that this was a theological question, and it was complete setup,\u201d White said. \u201cIt was over communion. They started asking him about wine because he doesn\u2019t drink, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, they\u2019re about to drop it on him.\u2019 And it\u2019d be like asking me how to build a building. I don\u2019t know how to build a building. And so I said, \u2018Look, politics by its very nature is designed to be very divisive and destructive.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGov. [Mike] Huckabee and myself were with him \u2026 and we highly recommend to him in this arena to keep faith very private and personal and hold it close because there are some situations that you walk out more privately than publicly because in an arena like this, I think, you\u2019re darned if you do, darned if you don\u2019t,\u201d White added. \u201cNow, with that said, there\u2019s a whole lot that happens behind the scenes that faith plays such an important role to our president.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump has often said that the media has had an unfair treatment towards him, but since becoming president has been more open about his faith.<\/p>\n
