From Christianity Today&#8217;s CEO and president <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimDalrymple_?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TimDalrymple_<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mXzbDJwSGt\">https:\/\/t.co\/mXzbDJwSGt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christianity Today (@CTmagazine) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CTmagazine\/status\/1270828051350388737?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nDalrymple labeled slavery one of America\u2019s \u201coriginal sins,\u201d also adding that the Christian church was \u201csilent in the face of slavery or even complicit in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of the same ministers who defended slavery in the antebellum South likewise defended the racist systems that followed after the Civil War,\u201d Dalrymple wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Dalrymple then referenced the story of Zacchaeus. In the story, an unscrupulous tax collector, upon meeting Jesus, promised to \u201cgive half of my possessions to the poor\u201d and make reparations to those he had cheated (Luke 18:8).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZacchaeus had not personally designed the unjust system of Roman taxation. But he had not denounced it either; he had participated in it and profited from it. So Zacchaeus did not merely repent of his ways; he made restitution,\u201d Dalrymple said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe set up what we might call a \u201cZacchaeus fund\u201d in order to restore what belonged to his neighbors. Are we willing to do the same? Black lives matter. They matter so much that Jesus sacrificed everything for them. Are we willing to sacrifice as well?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will not be enough, but it will be something,\u201d he added in his article. \u201cWhat if there were Zacchaeus funds in every city and believers gave sacrificially, so our brothers and sisters could be restored and so our neighbors could see once again the Christlike love that overcame the world?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree with Dalrymple\u2019s assertion?
