Rep. Ilhan Omar recent suggested that Jesus was a Palestinian and not a Jew and is facing major criticism for it.<\/p>\n

Omar retweeted a tweet from Omar Suleiman, an American Muslim scholar and civil rights activist according to CBN News<\/em>. The scholar has accused conservative Christians of being ignorant about Jesus\u2019 Palestinian heritage.<\/p>\n

Suleiman\u2019s tweet read: \u201cI was once asked by a relative who is a Palestinian Christian why Christian right in America largely supports their oppression. Don\u2019t they know we\u2019re Christian too? Do they even consider us human? Don\u2019t they know Jesus was Palestinian?\u201d<\/p>\n

Suleiman was likely responding to a New York Times<\/em> piece that said: \u201cJesus, born in Bethlehem, was most like a Palestinian man with dark skin.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NYT <\/em>recently issued a correction for this article by Eric V. Copage headlined, \u201cAs a Black Child, I couldn\u2019t Understand Why Jesus Had Blue Eyes.\u201d The op-ed claimed that Jesus as Palestinian.<\/p>\n

This piece was revised after a week\u2019s worth of criticism in Jewish publications, social media and elsewhere according to the Washington Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of an editing error, an earlier version of this article referred incorrectly to Jesus\u2019s background,\u201d said the correction post Friday. \u201cWhile he lived in an area that later came to be known as Palestine, Jesus was a Jew who was born in Bethlehem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michael Dickson, executive director of StandWithUs-Israel, responded to Omar\u2019s tweet with the following:<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, @Ilhan Omar, Jesus was not a \u2018Palestinian\u2019, he was a Jew born in Israel under Roman occupation and your need to misrepresent history and misappropriate his background to further a political cause says more about you than it does about anything else,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey also criticized Omar, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who call Jesus a \u2018Palestinian,\u2019 despite the fact that the geographical region of Palestine didn\u2019t exist until years after his death, are simply projecting modern-day intersectionality onto him, in order to make their \u2018wokeness\u2019 seem biblical. This is idolatry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Said Amir Tsarfati, who is an Israeli Bible scholar and founder of Behold Israel Ministry wrote: \u201cI suggest that she reads the #Bible and see for herself that the Lion from the tribe of #Judah that came from the house of David was definitely a #Jew who taught in #synagogues and not #mosques!\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to note biblical times, Palestine was not known as Palestine; it was known as Judea: \u201cBethlehem of Judea\u201d (Matthew 2:1).<\/p>\n
