The congregation rose and a group of Jewish children sang &#8220;Shalom Aleichem&#8221; &#8211; &#8220;peace be upon you.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe president lit a candle for a silver menorah.<br \/>\nMost of Poland&#8217;s Jews were killed in the Holocaust and those who remained after World War II suffered from communist-era anti-Semitism.
